Emily Mason wins 1st place in scholarship competition
Wetumpka, Alabama- The Wetumpka Civic Center was packed for the Elmore County Republican's Annual Scholarship Dinner. Congressman Gary Palmer addressed the students and crowd and talked about the virtues of leadership and the sacrifices it takes to be a leader.
Emily Mason won 1st place in the competition, Lucas Luster was 2nd and Rhett Pinkston took 3rd place. All were awarded scholarships and were the finalists from 16 applicants. Students submitted essays and the finalists were then interviewed to determine the winners.
Many current and former elected officials and candidates also came out to support the students. Congressman Palmer also spoke to the u14 team from Wetumpka United who were sponsored by and guests of Chairman Bill Lewis.
The scholarship dinner takes place annually in the first quarter of the year. The scholarships have been awarded since 2019. Rising seniors can apply in the fall of each academic year.
